This is for our clients who have had Great Lengths or Hairlocs applied.
GREAT LENGTHS PREMIUM HAIR EXTENSION SYSTEM
-
1.Do not wash hair for 48 hours following application. This will give your bonds time to set in. If you accidently get your bonds wet just dry them immediately. It does not matter if you get JUST the hair wet. Only the bonds.
-
2.Your head might be tender one to three days after application. This usually occurs when this is the first time you have worn strand by strand extensions. You can take an Aleve or Ibuprophen, but it will only last a day or two. Imagine your hair being in 100 or more tiny pony tails. It will ease up so just be patient.
-
3.Use Anti-Tap after shampooing or before doing any activity your scalp will be damp for an extended amount of time ( exercise, swimming etc) Mixture should be made in an 8 oz. squirt bottle. The shelf life is only about a 30 days once mixed, so do not mix more than the above amount at one time. Anti-Tap should be sprayed on your bonds before combing out after shampooing and conditioning. When used before exercise or swimming, spray on bonds only. What Anti-Tap does is help pull excessive moisture out of yur binds, thereby keeping them as dry as possible which helps the extensions stay in as long as possible.
-
4.Brush extensions twice a day. Brushing means using your Great Lengths brush to go through the bonds, keeping them separated. If you are wearing your extensions curled and do not want to brush through them, them run your fingers through bonds, row by row, to ensure continued separation from each other. This also helps keep your extension in the best condition.
-
5. It is normal to lose a few the first couple weeks. Don’t panic if a few come out within the first few weeks. This is totally normal.
-
6.Before you go to bed run your fingers through your bonds or brush through your bonds and secure your extensions with a soft band, whatever is comfortable.
-
7.Never go to bed with your extensions wet, especially the bonds. remember the idea is to keep your bonds dry, so going to bed with them damp and then your hair tied back, keeps them moist and could allow loosening of the bonds. Damp hair will tangle easier and could cause tangles that would be difficult to get out.
-
8.Return in two weeks for a checkup. Unless you decide you would like a bit more trimmed off of your extensions, this checkup only takes about 5 minutes, but is important so your tech knows that your hair is being brushed properly and there are no problems. Once you have come in for your checkup you are good to go unless you need your hair cut or colored for the next few months. ENJOY!!
HAIRLOCS
All the above rules apply to HAIRLOCS as well with the exception you do not use the Anti-Tap product on Hairlocs and it is important to condition only from the pony tail down. Getting conditioner into the lock area can cause slippage. It is also important you return for maintenance no more than three months from the time you had your Hairlocs applied.
WHAT CAUSES BREAKAGE OR MATTING
There are two things that can cause your hair to break with extensions. Not brushing properly and keeping them in too long.
When you come in for your extension consultation and again before you leave the day of your application and also in your maintenance is an explanation of how to care for this premium product.
My blunt question is always, why would you spend this kind of money to have a premium service with high quality extensions and not care for them properly?
It is also explained that extensions last 3 to 6 months. Yes, I have the occasional client who can keep these in longer, but never a client with fine hair, never a client with very short hair so please be realistic in your expectations of what extensions will do for you and how long they will last. Extensions are more difficult to care for at the end of the time they are in your hair and clients get tired of the brushing required. If you are at this point then have them removed. This is when they will do damage and something that can be prevented.
